(Disclaimer: I am long term investor in Ethos, entered at various price level, since ICO)
While Ethos is heavily relying on the Self-custody strategy I would like to share my concern on this approach as decentralization should probably not go all the way to the hands of end-users (via managing their private key / seeds on their own). It seems to me that one barrier to entry for the masses is precisely the decentralization effect (end-user shouldn't care about technicality), hence a centralized system is likely more suitable for the masses - when it comes to key management -. The postulate on the type of custody followed by Ethos hasn't been proven in the real world and therefore represent a serious risk to the business if the purpose is to reach a wide market; Self-custody may probably always be a niche and target users with higher degree of technicality or with high risk tolerance. And the never ending endeavor of crypto-educating the masses will probably only reach 5% of the target.
In order for Ethos to reach the masses, I believe it would be a safe bet to outsource the key management to a trusted , preferably renown, entity. While I understand that this is also plan in the Ethos offering, I think it's worth underlying this, and that the main focus regarding custody should probably go in that direction.
One advantage of being a small player is the ability to change/adapt plans and I am happy to see that Ethos is strengthening the b2b offering via a set of APIs as online businesses are more easily reachable due to their familiarity in implementing online payments.
I would be happy if the team could give their thoughts on this going forward.
I forgot my username for my wallet(I know) and when I put my mail into "Forgot Username" I don't get any email. Is there anything I can do? I'm leaving tomorrow and don't really have internet access for about 5 days....
