Bought XEL coins in 2018. Haven't thought about a lot of my alts until recently.

From all the digging I'm doing I see that www.xel.org is still up, yet Coin Market Cap is not longer tracking the currency, and my shares on Bittrex are basically locked.

Just trying to find a solid answer as to whether or not this shit dead at point and zombie coin status.

XEL as an open source decentralized project is accessible for everyone with acces of internet. Its out there and the community can decide what to do with this high tech decentralized supercomputer. The goals are focussed on finding use cases to use the decentralized super computer. The goals of XEL as announced by the founder(s) was always about science. So in 2020 the focus still be on finding science problems and providing them a solution by using the compute engine in XEL.
