What is Synthetix (SNX)?
Synthetix is a decentralized finance protocol on Ethereum that enables the creation and trading of synthetic assets, known as Synths. These Synths track the value of real-world assets like fiat currencies, commodities, and other cryptocurrencies. The protocol was launched in 2018 and uses a collateralized debt pool model to back the value of these synthetic assets.
How does Synthetix work?
Synthetix uses a collateralized debt pool where users stake SNX tokens as collateral to mint Synths. The system maintains a debt pool that aggregates all Synth values, and traders can exchange between Synths without needing a counterparty. The protocol relies on price oracles to ensure Synth values accurately reflect underlying assets, and stakers earn fees from trades.
