What is Lido DAO (LDO)?
Lido DAO (LDO) is the governance token for the Lido protocol, a liquid staking platform on Ethereum. Lido lets users stake ETH and receive stETH, a token representing their staked deposit plus rewards. Holding LDO gives users voting power over protocol decisions, including fee structures, node operator selection, and treasury management.
How does Lido's liquid staking work?
Lido DAO (LDO) governs the protocol that pools ETH from multiple users. The protocol deposits this ETH with professional node operators, and in return users receive stETH tokens at a 1:1 ratio. Staking rewards are distributed daily to stETH holders. stETH remains liquid, so users can trade or use it in DeFi while still earning yield.
What is the LDO token used for?
LDO is the governance token of Lido DAO. LDO holders can propose and vote on changes to the Lido protocol, such as adjusting fees, selecting node operators, and allocating treasury funds. Holding LDO does not provide direct yield, but it grants participation in decentralized management of the liquid staking platform.
How is Lido different from traditional ETH staking?
Traditional Ethereum staking requires locking 32 ETH and running hardware, preventing those funds from being used elsewhere. Lido DAO (LDO) enables staking with any amount of ETH through a liquid staking model. Users receive stETH, which is an ERC-20 token, so they can exit positions or use stETH across Ethereum applications without waiting for the staking unbonding period.
