The pair could start a fresh increase if the bulls clear the $205 zone. Solana Price Dips Again Solana price struggled to clear the $220-$225 zone and started a fresh decline, like Bitcoin and Ethereum. There was a move below the $212 and $205 support levels. The price even dipped below the $200 handle. A low was formed at $196.73, and the price is now consolidating losses below the 23.6% Fib retracement level of the downward move from the $223 swing high to the $196 low. Solana is now trading below $200 and the 100-hourly simple moving average. There is also a connecting bearish trend line forming with resistance at $204 on the hourly chart of the SOL/USD pair. On the upside, the price is facing resistance near the $204 level. The next major resistance is near the $210 level or the 50% Fib retracement level of the downward move from the $223 swing high to the $196 low. The main resistance could be $213. A successful close above the $213 resistance level could set the pace for another steady increase. The next key resistance is $225. Any more gains might send the price toward the $240 level. Another Decline in SOL? If SOL fails to rise above the $205 resistance, it could start another decline. Initial support on the downside is near the $196 level. The first major support is near the $188 level. A break below the $180 level might send the price toward the $175 zone. If there is a close below the $175 support, the price could decline toward the $162 support in the near term. Technical Indicators Hourly MACD – The MACD for SOL/USD is gaining pace in the bearish zone. Hourly Hours RSI (Relative Strength Index) – The RSI for SOL/USD is below the 50 level. Bitcoin has recently seen quite an interesting trend in its key metrics suggesting a significant movement ahead, according to a post by CryptoQuant analyst Amr Taha. The post, shared on the CryptoQuant QuickTake platform, highlights notable changes in both long-term and short-term holder behaviour of Bitcoin, as well as in realized profit and loss figures. Key Bitcoin Metrics Suggesting Market Shifts Taha begins by explaining the fundamental difference between short-term and long-term Bitcoin holders. Short-term holders (STH) are traders who engage in brief buying and selling activities, often employing strategies like day trading or swing trading to capitalize on Bitcoin’s price fluctuations. On the other hand, long-term holders (LTH) adopt a buy-and-hold strategy, aiming for long-term gains by holding onto their Bitcoin for extended periods. This distinction sets the stage for understanding the recent changes in market activity. In his analysis, Taha noted a sharp decline in the realized capitalization for long-term holders, which dropped from $19 billion to -$5 billion. This indicates that long-term holders have been taking profits or closing their positions, potentially signalling reduced confidence in further price gains. On the flip side, short-term holders have increased their buying activity, with their realized capitalization rising from -$17 billion to $11 billion. This suggests that short-term traders either take on more risk or bet on potential price increases, creating a more volatile market environment. Additionally, Taha touched on the Korea Premium Index, often called the “Kimchi Premium.” This index tracks the price difference between Bitcoin traded on South Korean and global exchanges. Currently, the index is near zero or negative, meaning Bitcoin is trading at a lower price in South Korea than the rest of the world. This implies reduced buying pressure from Korean traders, who have historically played a large role in increasing cryptocurrency prices due to the local trading culture. A negative premium suggests low demand from South Korean investors, potentially adding to the market’s uncertainty. Net Realized Profit And Loss Trends Another key metric Taha focused on is Bitcoin’s net realized profit and loss (NRPL), which tracks market participants’ total net profit or loss. Positive NRPL values indicate that more investors are taking profits, while negative values suggest more losses are being realized. Currently, the NRPL is approaching a critical $4 billion mark. The red line marking the $4 billion level across the chart (above) represents a key point of market activity. According to the analyst, when NRPL crosses this line, it can indicate a surge in trading activity as more investors either lock in their profits or cut their losses. The CEO of the on-chain analytics firm CryptoQuant has explained how the Bitcoin whales have been showing a shift in their Realized Cap recently. New Bitcoin Whales Are About To Overtake Old Ones In a new post on X, CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju has discussed the recent trend in the Realized Caps of the new and old Bitcoin whales. The “Realized Cap” here is a model that calculates the total valuation of Bitcoin by assuming that each coin’s ‘true’ value in circulation is the price at which it was last transferred or sold on the blockchain. The last transfer of any coin is likely the last point at which it changes hands, so the price at its time could be equated to its current cost basis. As such, the Realized Cap measures the sum of the cost basis of the BTC supply. Or, put another way, this metric keeps track of the total amount of capital the investors have put into BTC. In the context of the current topic, the version of the Realized Cap that’s of interest is limited to just two segments of the market: the new and old whales. Whales refer to entities carrying more than 1,000 coins in their wallets. This cohort is divided into two based on age using a 155-day cutoff. All whales bought within the past five months belong to the short-term holder or new whale cohort, while those who have been holding for longer than this duration are called the long-term holder or old whales. Now, here is a chart that shows the trend in the relative percentages of the Realized Cap contributed by these two Bitcoin groups: As the above graph shows, the Realized Cap of the new Bitcoin whales wasn’t anything significant before 2018, indicating that veteran capital was king on the network. Following 2018, though, the percentage dominance of this group gradually started to show an improvement. And this year, the growth in the Realized Cap of this cohort has blown up, with the metric’s value now sitting at $108 billion. For perspective, the indicator is standing at $113 billion for the old whales, which suggests the disparity between the two almost nonexistent. “Bitcoin whales are experiencing a generational shift,” notes Young Ju, based on this trend. “Realized Cap of new whales is expected to surpass that of older whales soon.” Related Reading: Bitcoin Investors Not Sold On Uptober As Sentiment Remains Neutral As for the sudden sharp growth in the Realized Cap of the new whales, it’s likely that the inflows into the spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have been falling in this category.
